SetForth Nigeria is currently collaborating with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the University of Lagos, Akoka to host an online course on “Social Conflict and Safety in Urban Space”. The course which is in partnership with the Global Center of Spatial Methods for Urban Sustainability, is with funding support by the DAAD from funds of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation (BMZ).
Course Objective
The online course was conceived against the background of the growing incidences of social conflicts and violence that have continued to undermine safety in urban spaces across the globe but especially in developing countries.
Importance
The importance of this course is further underscored by our fast changing world of globalisation, social media penetration and a new consciousness about democratic rights and freedoms, which have combined to make conflicts, violence, protests and crime borderless, spontaneous and vicious, thus threatening global civilization
Duration
The course is designed to run for 8 weeks and will offer both theoretical and practical contents
Content
Theoretically, it will provide participants with a deeper appreciation of meaning, forms, origins, sources, manifestations, dynamics and effects of conflicts and violence especially in urban spaces. Practically, it will equip participants with practical skills on programme designs, implementation and management in relation to ensuring safety of urban spaces.
Target Audience

Workload
Participants are expected to spend an average of 4 hours weekly to be able to cover all course activities.

Training will be participatory and will involve online lectures, short films simulations, and practical sessions
